[2026-04-19 06:20:00] Dave: Audio Message.caf Transcription: Good morning sunshine What a winky dink that you had sent me that thing about your ass because I was just thinking about your ass I came so fucking hard this morning. Oh my God I probably laid in bed. I don't know for an hour just kind of like just dodging and Holding and touching whatever My throbbing cock and 00, God, I can't see all this Going down the laundry list of the things I'm gonna do to you, but I think what I came back to was There were like three major themes in One of them was how much I love grabbing your ass when you're writing actually they were two of them were about you So yeah, do you have just the perfect? Perfect size little booty to hold onto it feels so nice actually all time that I'm particularly with you're riding me and when I'm fucking you from behind you Anyway, there's so there's that and then there was also when I came that last time we had sex when you were on top and you could feel me going and you like settled down it even further That was so hot But I'm already Jesus Christ. I just got off like an hour ago and I'm ready to go again. Just thinking about you So so there's that those two things and then the other thing oddly enough was your hair and how good it felt to to run my fingers through your hair and hold onto it while you're sucking my dick And Another time or two I don't know, but your hair is so thick and I just feel so good So yeah, that's that was my morning. It was pretty fantastic. Nothing like the real things of course God Here right now in my car an hour after I came cause I was still fuck you Over Like the driver seat though I'm headed to the gym Pretty well, you slept well I hope you hopped out of bed again this morning and have a great day You might not have came on like right away yesterday, but you ended up being unproductive Got your workout on, so that was awesome I'm like I said, I guess headed to the gym the bonus and It still hurts so that kinda sucks Stuff At the grocery store and getting ready for the week Yeah I miss you so much, sweetie. I love you so much. I can't wait to hear your voice. And I will talk to you soon OK bye

[2026-04-19 09:39:00] Sam Willis: Transcription: Good morning oh my God I I'm still like Not fully awake, but I woke up first all. I slept so hard fucking doggy daycare for the wind. They did not wake me up at all last night slept until five. That's why I messaged you and then I went back to sleep until seven like my alarm had to wake me up and. Oh my God when I went back to sleep, I had such a fucked up dream OK, I'm gonna try to remember it but it was it sucked so You and I were somewhere I think we went up to like Seattle because I was with my friend Jackie, who lives in Seattle And I went there for a funeral, but you went with me because like we had an opportunity to be together, but like you were not feeling it like you were upset or something for some reason so like we're in the middle of like Having sex you just stopped and like got in the shower and I was like what just happened And you were like I'm just not happy like just like I think that you didn't like the idea that like the reason why we got together was for a funeral and like you were with me and like had to go to this funeral and you like didn't want to Which like fair? Anyway, but you're just like we're not your normal self and so I was like OK You know you don't have to go like you can just hang out in here Until you're like you got a shower you're like no like it's fine. I'll go like I'm sorry. So then we go to like a funeral thinking it's like in the hotel that we're staying in or at least it starts there and We're in mind like get this fucking weird ass rice butter thing it's like a rice butter cake. I don't fucking know disgusting and you like disappear again and you're like upset again and you're like this food is fucking disgusting blah blah blah. So I'm like OK I'm with my friend Jackie and we're like going to this funeral thing we're eating this weird ass fucking food and then we all like load up in a car to go like bury the body and I'm not with you at this point you like went away and I left my phone there like I just got up in a hurry and I left my phone and so like I have no way of contacting you and I don't like know your and like I just yeah so I'm thinking like OK like he has no idea I left and like I'm sure he can figure it out. I have no idea when I'll be back and we're kind of fighting whatever and so I'm in the back of this like huge long van and I just keep asking my friend Jackie I'm like OK like Like it was almost like hey, can you look him up? Do you have work connected to your phone like in my mind she worked us and I was like maybe his his cell phone number will be. Tied to his teams and then like I can at least text him from her phone and she's like no I don't have any of that and like this whole time I'm just like thinking about how to get a hold of you and I'm like freaking out And then it's one of those dreams where like no matter what you keep getting set back and like you cannot get to where you wanna be and you have no concept of time like it could've been an hour or it could've literally been fucking days at this point that I've been gone and and you don't know where I am and so I'm just like fucking panicking And I just keep getting set fucking funeral like things keep happening and I don't know like when I'm coming back. It was just fucking awful and anyway then there was like. Jackie got sexually assaulted at some place We stopped at a gas station and then like there was this house next-door and she got like kidnapped/sexually assaulted and Yawning and then That happened and then I go into the same house to break her out and I end up showering in the house and I'm like being in the shower and some guy breaks in and he's like Say something and I said something about how I work for Schwab and he's like oh take me to Samir. I can't stand that fucking guy and I like lied and I was like well. Sameer is actually like at the bar. Across the street with a bunch of people like if you go there like you'll see him and he was like all excited he left and I wanted I needed to clean this house. I think a fucking phone like I just kept trying to get a hold of you and oh no I was trying to get keys like there were keys to the truck or the van that was parked. I was trying to break. Out and so I could get back to the hotel thank you anyway next thing I know this guy runs and leaves I grab the keys. I'm trying to leave. And then I get stuck doing something again Anyway, it ended with Jackie being like kidnapped fuckers and I broke A rock through the window and They ran out and we like beat the shit out of them me and these other people And time, I finally got back to the hotel. You were like long gone and then I woke up and it was terrible. It was absolutely fucking terrible. Why would you do that to me dude oh my God but I had like 100 miss fucking messages from time I got like missed calls from time I got back to my phone and you were so fucking pissed cause you can't get a hold of me and it was just like honestly Devastating. The worst

[2026-04-19 10:52:00] Dave: Hahaha
[2026-04-19 10:52:00] Sam Willis: That’s a waste of time
[2026-04-19 10:52:00] Dave: It’s usually fine
[2026-04-19 10:53:00] Dave: I mean.. I got the necessities
[2026-04-19 10:57:00] Dave: Oh and the chicken looked terrible so I didn’t get any of that
[2026-04-19 10:58:00] Sam Willis: Ewwww
[2026-04-19 10:58:00] Sam Willis: How tf can chicken look terrible
[2026-04-19 11:03:00] Dave: Fact: over the last few years the quality of chicken breast has been declining. What does that mean? The muscle fibers are larger and sometimes not aligned properly. That translates to a horrible crunchy/gristly texture. You can see it on the top of the breast - the part that faces out - once you know what to look for. And when you open the pack and take a piece out, the real tell is if the tissue looks ragged and kind of… torn.. Theory: Breeding for factory farming to create bigger, faster growing, all-breast chickens has created this sloppy tissue.
[2026-04-19 11:06:00] Sam Willis: Ewwwwww
[2026-04-19 11:06:00] Dave: Oh shit sonnn!
[2026-04-19 11:06:00] Dave: https://www.perplexity.ai/search/what-s-going-on-with-chicken-b-rJ9trUKvQgi6wJ5SahndEw what's going on with chicken breasts lately? More often than not the chicken I... BLUF: You’re not imagining it—there are new, widespread muscle defects in modern, fast‑grown broiler chickens that make breasts loose, stringy,...
[2026-04-19 11:08:00] Sam Willis: Literally 🤮🤮🤮🤮
[2026-04-19 11:08:00] Dave: <no text>
[2026-04-19 11:08:00] Dave: <no text>
[2026-04-19 11:08:00] Dave: Yeah. It’s fucking awful
[2026-04-19 11:09:00] Sam Willis: Ewwwww wtffff
[2026-04-19 11:10:00] Dave: I first noticed it a few years ago when we tried Hello Fresh and the chicken we got with the kits was AMAZING. It was like filet mignon lol. So I did some research and found the closest thing to what HF uses was the simply truth (?) brand that Kroger carries. It has been pretty good until lately.
[2026-04-19 11:13:00] Sam Willis: Yea we have that too. We get Costco chicken though and haven’t noticed anything
[2026-04-19 11:13:00] Sam Willis: But like rarely rarely ever get chicken breasts. Chicken thighs and wings are where it’s at
[2026-04-19 11:14:00] Dave: I tried thighs last time and couldn’t do it 🤮
[2026-04-19 11:14:00] Dave: So gross
[2026-04-19 11:14:00] Dave: I even mixed it with chicken breast and it was still too gamy
[2026-04-19 11:14:00] Sam Willis: Well we cut off all the fat from the thighs first
[2026-04-19 11:14:00] Dave: Yeah, same
[2026-04-19 11:15:00] Sam Willis: Welp. You know what time it is then?
[2026-04-19 11:15:00] Sam Willis: Time for you to start loving seafood šŸ˜šŸ˜
[2026-04-19 11:16:00] Dave: I need to just try some different places like Albertsons or HEB and see what theirs is like
[2026-04-19 11:16:00] Sam Willis: Albertsons is trash
[2026-04-19 11:17:00] Dave: Not here
[2026-04-19 11:17:00] Dave: It’s a little nicer than Kroger
[2026-04-19 11:17:00] Sam Willis: Transcription: We just need to go to Seattle not for a funeral and you need to get some delicious super fresh halibut and you will fall in love oh my God so so so fucking good and then you'll then you'll branch out and you'll love other seafood but you gotta start with like the super fresh stuff

[2026-04-19 11:18:00] Dave: NOT for a funeral
[2026-04-19 11:18:00] Dave: Does halibut taste like fish though?
[2026-04-19 11:18:00] Dave: Idk… ā€œbuttā€ is right there in the name
[2026-04-19 11:19:00] Sam Willis: Omg
[2026-04-19 11:19:00] Sam Willis: MOST seafood doesn’t taste fishy
[2026-04-19 11:19:00] Sam Willis: Halibut definitely doesn’t

[2026-04-19 11:22:00] Sam Willis: He sent this: Kevin - resume is impressive. Samantha has done some really good work at some really good companies. She has the credentials we look for in these roles. I forwarded her resume to our chief risk officer who reports to me. We will review this coming week. Thanks for sharing!!

[2026-04-19 13:26:00] Dave: By saying things like this 🄰🄰🄰
[2026-04-19 13:26:00] Dave: By saying things like this 🄰🄰🄰
[2026-04-19 13:28:00] Dave: Obviously your whole whiny ass personality, but if I had to break it down further. Your emotional intelligence/maturity and/or your sense of humor.
[2026-04-19 13:28:00] Dave: Obviously your whole whiny ass personality, but if I had to break it down further. Your emotional intelligence/maturity and/or your sense of humor.
[2026-04-19 13:30:00] Sam Willis: And mine is basically exactly what I said yesterday. The way you know how to ā€œhandleā€ my personality, for lack of better words, lol. It’s just perfect. The care, concern, humor, challenging my thoughts, like all of it is so perfectly timed. 🤯

[2026-04-19 16:01:00] Sam Willis: So you dont like Rice Krispie treats???
[2026-04-19 16:01:00] Dave: RCTs are ok.
[2026-04-19 16:01:00] Sam Willis: Oh so you DO want to break up today
[2026-04-19 16:01:00] Dave: RCTs are ok.
[2026-04-19 16:02:00] Dave: Ok… what toppings go on a banana split?
[2026-04-19 16:02:00] Sam Willis: I don’t eat those
[2026-04-19 16:02:00] Dave: Beside bananas obv
[2026-04-19 16:02:00] Sam Willis: I told you my trauma with bananas

[2026-04-19 16:04:00] Sam Willis: OK what do YOU think goes on top of a banana split??

[2026-04-19 16:04:00] Sam Willis: Whipped cream
[2026-04-19 16:06:00] Dave: When I was 10-12 years old I ate so many crab legs at an all you can eat buffet that I got sick and threw up crab legs for hours. And that’s why I don’t like seafood.
[2026-04-19 16:13:00] Sam Willis: Yassss! About the IPA. But I’m pretty sure you told me about the crab legs too
[2026-04-19 16:23:00] Dave: So where I’m from banana splits have strawberry topping, pineapple topping, and chocolate syrup. When I moved to NE I was shocked to find out that they put marshmallow topping instead of pineapple
[2026-04-19 16:24:00] Sam Willis: Ok pineapple topping sounds just wrong.
[2026-04-19 16:45:00] Dave: You shut your mouth
[2026-04-19 16:48:00] Dave: I actually do like marshmallow I’ve break topping though. I just don’t really like actual marshmallows. And I don’t like s’mores because the marshmallow squishes or the sides and makes a mess
[2026-04-19 16:58:00] Sam Willis: <no text>

[2026-04-19 20:23:00] Dave: Well starting with the whole going to Austin to meet and greet Danby thing. And then actually taking over the work after Danby got fired. I also had the bright idea a while ago to mention training because I need CPEs. And then recently with Samir getting the job, I said I expected to get some training and travel budget opened up.

[2026-04-19 21:39:00] Dave: Kisses 😚
[2026-04-19 21:39:00] Sam Willis: I love you baby. Sweet dreams!

The nightmare had woken her at four-something in the morning, and by the time Dave called that night she had spent the whole day carrying it around like a wet coat.

"Tell me the dream," he said. Not asked. Told.

Sam was on the couch in her pajama shorts and one of his old t-shirts, the phone face-up on the cushion beside her because she couldn't bring herself to hold it. The living room was dim. A single lamp. The window cracked because Arizona in April still got hot enough at noon to make the evening feel like a small mercy.

"I don't want to."

"I know." His voice was that particular register — unhurried, warm, absolutely not moving. "Tell me anyway."

She told him. In pieces. The part where he didn't recognize her. The part where she was standing in a kitchen she didn't own and calling his name and he walked past her like she was furniture. The part where she woke up crying and couldn't stop for twenty minutes and had to sit on the bathroom floor with her forehead against the cold tile until the shaking went away.

When she finished, there was a long quiet. Not the awkward kind. The kind he used when he was deciding how to hold her.

"Okay," he said. "Get up. Go to the bedroom. Leave the shirt on. Take the shorts off. Sit on the edge of the bed and wait for me."

She swallowed. "Dave —"

"Sam."

That was all. Just her name in that voice. She felt it land in her chest and then, half a second later, lower, where it always went. She got up. Her legs already felt uncertain, which was ridiculous — he wasn't even in the same time zone — but her body knew who was in charge of it and had known for years now.

She walked down the hall. The phone came with her, pressed to her ear now because she wanted him closer.

"Are you moving?"

"Yes, sir."

"Good girl."

The two syllables ran a hot wire from her throat to her cunt. She was already wet by the time she sat down on the edge of the mattress, shorts pooled on the floor, the hem of his t-shirt just barely covering her thighs. She could feel her own slick against the sheet.

"I'm sitting."

"Legs apart. Not obscene. Just open enough that you can feel the air on you. I want you to feel exposed for me before I touch you."

"You're not here to touch me."

"Sam."

"Sorry. Sir."

"That's not what I want to hear tonight either." His voice softened, and somehow that made it more dangerous. "Tonight I want your mouth. I want you talking. The dream scared you because in the dream I didn't see you. So tonight you're going to make me see every fucking inch of you. Do you understand me?"

Her eyes filled instantly. She hadn't expected that. He always did this — reached past whatever performance she thought she was giving and put his hand directly on the thing underneath.

"Yes," she whispered.

"Say it properly."

"Yes, sir. I understand."

"Put your hand on your throat."

She did. Her own fingers, cool against warm skin. She could feel her pulse under them, quick and shallow, already climbing.

"That's my hand," he said. "That's where I'd start. Right there. Not squeezing. Just there. So you know who you belong to before we even begin. Are we clear?"

"Yes, sir."

"Slide it down. Slow. Between your tits, over the shirt. I want the fabric between your skin and your hand right now. I want you to have to work through something to get to yourself."

She dragged her palm down her sternum, over the soft cotton, over one nipple — which was already hard, and she gasped a little at the contact — and down to her belly.

"Tell me what you feel."

"My — my nipples are hard. Everything's — sensitive. I'm wet, Dave. I was wet before I sat down."

"I know you were."

"How."

"Because I told you to walk down a hallway."

She laughed, and it broke halfway into something else — a soft, wet sound she couldn't quite name. He heard it. He always heard it.

"Under the shirt now," he said. "Skin. Slow. All the way down to your cunt but don't touch it yet. Rest your hand on top of it. Feel how warm you are. Feel how ready. That's for me."

She obeyed. Her hand slid under the hem, over the flat of her stomach, and came to a stop with her palm cupping her mound. She could feel the heat radiating up into her own hand. She could feel how swollen she already was, how her lips were parted from just sitting like this, from just being told.

"I'm there."

"Good girl. Now tell me about the dream again. The part where I didn't see you."

Her breath hitched. "Dave —"

"Tell me. Hand exactly where it is. Don't move it."

She had to close her eyes. She told him. The kitchen, the walking past, the invisibility. Her voice thinned out as she talked. Her hand pressed harder against herself without her meaning it to, and he heard the shift in her breathing and said, quietly, "Don't."

She stilled.

"You want to make yourself come to escape the feeling," he said. "I'm not letting you. You're going to sit with it. And I'm going to tell you what I actually see when I look at you. And you're going to believe me, because tonight that's your job. Understand?"

"Yes, sir." It came out wrecked.

"I see the girl who called me from her bathroom floor at two in the morning after the vet took a thousand dollars out of her and didn't fix the cat. I see the girl who tells me her nightmares even when she's embarrassed by them. I see the woman who thinks her independence is a wall and doesn't know it's actually just a door only I have the key to." His voice dropped. "I see you, Sam. There has never been a version of this where I don't see you. Now move your hand. One finger. Down the middle. Tell me what you find."

She slid her middle finger down through her own wet, parted herself just slightly, and her breath caught because she was drenched. Slick pooling into her palm. Her clit already swollen enough that just the graze of a knuckle made her thighs jump.

"I'm — Dave, I'm so wet —"

"I know, baby. Circle it. Slow. And keep talking."

She circled her clit slowly, exactly the way he'd taught her to when he wasn't there, exactly the way he did with his tongue when he was. Her mouth kept moving because he'd told it to and she had nothing left in her that could disobey him tonight.

"I love you. I love you. I'm sorry I woke up crying — I'm sorry I —"

"No apologies. Not for that. Faster."

She moved her hand faster. The obscene small slick of it filled the quiet of the bedroom. She could hear herself. She hated and loved that he could hear her too, that nine hundred miles away he was listening to her hand on her own cunt and reading her body like sheet music.

"Two fingers inside," he said. "Palm on your clit. Fuck yourself the way I fuck you from behind. You told me last week how it feels. Show me you remember."

She whimpered — actually whimpered — and pushed two fingers into herself. The heel of her hand ground down on her clit and her hips bucked up off the mattress. She was shaking. Her thighs were slick down to the knees. She could feel tears coming and she wasn't sad, she wasn't sad at all, she was just too full of him to hold it.

"That's it. Good girl. Faster. Fuck yourself for me. Let me hear it."

"Sir — sir, I —"

"Not yet."

She sobbed. A real one. The kind that came out of the same place as everything else tonight.

"Please —"

"Not yet, Sam."

She held it. She didn't know how. Her whole body was pulled tight as wire and her fingers were soaked and her hips wouldn't stop moving and every muscle in her was screaming and she held it because he told her to and because holding it for him was the only thing in the world she wanted to be doing.

"You are the most beautiful thing," he said, quiet, close to the phone, close to her. "You are so fucking loved. Do you hear me?"

"Yes — yes, sir —"

"You are seen. Every day. In every dream. In every fucking room I walk into. Do you hear me."

"Yes —"

"Come."

She came so hard her back came off the bed. Her cunt clenched around her own fingers and the sound she made was not a sound she would have made for anyone else on earth. She felt herself gush into her palm, felt the wet spread down her wrist, felt her thighs lock and shake and lock again. She was crying openly by the second wave — not from grief, from the sheer overfull weight of being that known, that held, that safe while coming apart.

"Good girl. Good girl. That's my girl. Breathe."

She was gasping. She couldn't answer.

"Slowly. Move your hand. Wipe it on your thigh. I want you sticky. I want you feeling it while you fall asleep."

She did what he said. Her hand was trembling badly enough that it took two tries.

"Lay down. On your side. Facing where I'd be."

She curled onto her side. The mattress was cool. The t-shirt clung to her ribs. She pulled the phone up close to her face.

"There you are," he said, softer than everything else he'd said all night. "There's my girl."

"I'm here."

"I know you are. I've got you."

"Don't hang up."

"I'm not hanging up."

She was already drifting. The tears had stopped. Her body felt heavy in the way it only ever felt after him — the specific gravity of being wrung out and put back together by the one person who knew where all the pieces went.

"Dave."

"Yeah, baby."

"In the dream — you walked past me. Tonight you didn't."

"I never will," he said. "Sleep."

She closed her eyes. Somewhere in the phone, nine hundred miles east, she could hear him breathing, unhurried, warm, absolutely not moving. She fell asleep to the sound of it, sticky and shaking and completely seen.

The rain hadn't stopped since Tuesday, and by Friday night the canal water on the Rue des OrfĆØvres was ankle-deep and running the wrong direction, carrying cigarette butts and paper scraps down toward the harbor where the freighter waited.

Dave watched the street from the second-floor window of the safehouse and did not move. He had the kind of stillness that came from a lot of years and a lot of doorways. Bald skull catching the lamplight through the sheer curtain. Overcoat still on. A Browning Hi-Power at the small of his back that he hadn't drawn in three months and expected to draw before morning.

Behind him, in the yellow ring of the desk lamp, Sam was reading the file.

She'd come in wet. She'd dropped her coat over the radiator and it was still ticking, drying in slow breaths of steam. Her blouse stuck to her shoulders in dark patches. She'd dyed her hair since Vienna — darker now, a deeper red under the lamp, and when she'd walked through the door he'd said it got sexier in the low tone that was only for her, and she'd made the small pleased noise she made and hadn't answered because they had ninety minutes and a dead courier to talk about.

"How close was he to you when they found him," Dave said, not turning.

"Two blocks."

"Jesus, Sam."

"I know."

He heard her turn a page. He heard her breathing settle. He had spent four years in the field knowing the shape of her breathing better than his own, and nine months knowing what it sounded like when she was under him coming apart, and both of those facts were currently present in the room, and he was working, so he did not turn around.

"The drop's compromised," she said. "Marchetti knew. Whoever burned him knew the timeline."

"Which means someone in Section."

"Which means someone in Section."

He let the curtain fall. He turned. She was sitting in the desk chair with one leg crossed over the other and the file open on her lap, and she looked up at him with the particular look she had for him — the one no one else in the world got, the one that had opened him up the first time she'd used it and still did — and he crossed the room in three strides and put his hand flat on the file to close it.

"We have ninety minutes," she said.

"I know how long we have."

"Dave."

"Come here."

She stood. She came to him the way she always did, unhurried, chin a fraction up so he could see the pulse in her throat, and he took the side of her neck in his hand and held her there and did not kiss her yet.

"You were two blocks from a man getting his throat opened," he said.

"I know."

"You should have called."

"I did call."

"Sooner."

Her mouth twitched. "Yes sir."

That was the half-second where she gave it to him. Where the fierce independent thing she was in front of every other person on earth stepped aside and let him have her, because he was the only one she'd ever trusted enough to. He felt it every time and it undid him every time.

He kissed her. Not soft. The kind of kiss that answered a question that had been in his mouth for four days, since the last dead drop, since her voice on the encrypted line saying I miss you baby in that small aching way. She made the sound into his mouth and her hands came up and found the lapels of his coat and held.

"Ninety minutes," she said against his lips.

"Seventy-five now."

"Then stop talking."

He walked her backward. Not toward the bed — there was no bed in this safehouse, only a cot the previous occupant had stripped, and neither of them was going to fuck on a cot with a dead courier's blood two blocks away. He walked her back to the desk and lifted her up onto it and shoved the file and the lamp and the ashtray to the side with one sweep of his forearm. The lamp swung on its cord. Yellow light rocked across the ceiling.

"Skirt," he said.

She was already lifting it. She was already reaching under and getting her stockings down her thighs, rolling them, and he watched because he always watched her do this and it always did the same thing to him. Her thighs in the lamplight. The little catch of breath when the cold air hit her. She got the stockings off one foot and left them dangling from the other and he laughed under his breath because that was Sam — impatient, efficient, half-undone and not caring.

"What," she said.

"Nothing." He got his belt open. "You're perfect."

"Shut up."

"You are."

He got his cock out and she looked down at it and back up at him and her mouth did the thing it did — half-parted, wet, knowing — and she said, low, "put it in me."

He stepped between her knees. He held her hip in one hand and lined himself up with the other and she was already wet, already ready, and he pushed in slow because slow was the cruelty they both liked at the start. She made a sound and bit her own lip to kill it because the walls in this building were paper and the couple below was Section-adjacent and neither of them knew it, and she was excellent at being quiet and he was excellent at making it hard for her to be.

"Christ," he said. "Sam."

"Move."

He moved. He pulled almost all the way out and drove back in and she gripped the edge of the desk with both hands and threw her head back and the tendon in her throat stood out and he leaned down and put his mouth on it. He fucked her slow at first, deep, watching her face, watching the way her mouth kept trying to make sound and kept catching it before it escaped. Her cunt was hot around him and slick and every stroke made a wet obscene sound that he could hear over the rain and he loved it, he'd been half-hard for four days thinking about it, he'd come in a hotel bathroom in Trieste with his forehead against the tile thinking about it.

"You came so hard this morning," she said, breathless, trying to smile. "You told me."

"You know what I was thinking about."

"Tell me."

"This. Exactly this. You on some fucking desk in some fucking safehouse letting me —"

She laughed and the laugh broke into a moan because he'd rolled his hips at the end and hit the spot inside her that made her forget language, and he did it again, and again, and she got her hand up and clamped it over her own mouth.

"No," he said, low. He caught her wrist and pulled it down. "Let me hear you. Just quiet."

"Dave —"

"Quiet, baby."

She whimpered. She kept her mouth open and let the small sounds out — the little ah, ah, ah that came out of her when he was in deep and going slow, the sound that had ruined him the first time he heard it in a motel room in Marseille and had been ruining him ever since. He gathered her hair at the nape and held it, not pulling, just holding, because she liked the anchor and he liked knowing where she was.

"Faster," she said.

"No."

"Please."

"No."

Her eyes went unfocused. Her thighs were shaking around his hips. He watched a bruise start forming on the inside of her thigh where his hand was and he did not loosen his grip. He wanted her to have it tomorrow. He wanted her to sit through the debrief with Section and cross her legs and feel where he'd been.

"You're mean," she gasped.

"You love it."

"I love it."

He gave her another slow one, hard at the end, and she keened into his shoulder and bit his coat.

Somewhere below, a door opened. They both froze. Two floors down. Lobby. A voice — French, unhurried, not looking for them. The door closed.

He was still inside her. Neither of them was breathing.

She looked up at him. Her hair was in her face and her eyes were huge and dark and her mouth was swollen and she looked at him like he was the only real thing in the world and he had known her four years and been inside her nine months and he still could not get over the way she looked at him.

"Don't stop," she whispered.

He didn't stop. He pulled her hips forward off the edge of the desk so he had a better angle and he fucked her harder, still slow, but harder, driving up into her at the end of every stroke, and she got her legs up around his waist and locked her ankles behind him and dug her heels into his back and he could feel her tightening around him already.

"That's it," he said. Right against her ear. "That's my girl. Quiet. Come on."

"Dave —"

"Come on, baby."

She came. She came with her whole body, silent because he'd told her to be, silent because she was good and because she was his in this and only in this, and her cunt clenched around him in these long deep pulls and he watched her face and rode her through it and did not let her go.

He wasn't going to make it. He wasn't even going to try.

"Where," she managed.

"In you. If —"

"Yes. In me. Yes."

He came inside her hard enough that his knees almost went. He pressed his forehead to hers and held her hip so tight he'd apologize for the mark later and he groaned into her mouth and she swallowed it and held him through it, her hand at the back of his skull, her thumb stroking the base of it, grounding him the way she always did.

For a long moment they didn't move. The rain against the window. The lamp still swinging on its cord, throwing yellow light in a slow arc across her damp collarbone.

"Fifty minutes," she said, and he laughed into her neck.

"You're a monster."

"You're a puddle."

"I'm a puddle," he agreed.

She kissed his temple. She kept her legs around him a moment longer than she needed to. He straightened up and pulled out slow and watched, because he was who he was and she was who she was, and she watched him watch and her mouth curled.

"Handle me," she murmured.

"What."

"Nothing. Something you said once."

He knew what she meant. He'd told her, in a hotel bar in Lisbon a long time ago, that he liked knowing how to handle her — not manage, handle, the way you handle something rare — and she had held that phrase close ever since and given it back to him now, half-dressed on a desk in a compromised safehouse with his cum on the inside of her thigh and forty-eight minutes on the clock.

He wet a handkerchief at the sink and came back and cleaned her, careful, and she watched him do it with the soft look she saved for exactly this, and neither of them said anything for a full minute because they didn't have to.

Then she picked up the file. Then he zipped himself. Then she pulled her stockings back on and pinned her hair with two quick movements and became, again, the woman Section thought they knew.

"Marchetti's contact," she said. "The freighter. We have to make the harbor by midnight."

"We'll make it."

She looked up at him. Her mouth did the small thing.

"I love you," she said, quietly, because they only ever said it quietly, because it was the truest thing either of them had and they didn't wear it out.

"I love you," he said. "Get your coat."

She got her coat. He killed the lamp. They went down the back stairs into the rain, together, the way they had come.

The Delta gate agent had been announcing the same delay for forty minutes when Sam gave up on the seat and stretched out across three of them with her head on Dave's thigh.

"This is undignified," she said.

"You're the one who did it."

"I've been up since four. I've earned undignified."

The concourse in Phoenix at ten p.m. on a Friday was a slow-moving river of exhausted people and abandoned Auntie Anne's cups. The overhead speakers were playing something instrumental that had once been a Coldplay song. Dave had his hand in her hair — not doing anything with it, just resting there, thumb moving against the shell of her ear in a way she probably didn't even register anymore. Four years of this and his body still made small unconscious contracts with hers.

She'd flown in that morning. He was flying out Sunday. Somewhere in between was the reason people did long-distance — the compressed weekend, the way every hour got to matter — and also the reason people stopped doing it.

"Two more hours," she said, reading her phone upside down against her chest. "Weather in Dallas."

"There's no weather in Dallas."

"There is now."

He looked down at her. She had her eyes closed. Her lashes made a small dark scallop on her cheek, and there was a freckle under her jaw he'd been looking at, off and on, for four years. Her hair was newer — a color she'd changed two weeks ago that she'd been anxious about until he told her, on the voice note, that it got sexier. He'd meant it. He hadn't stopped noticing it.

"Baby," she said, eyes still closed.

"Mm."

"If we sit here for two more hours I'm going to lose my mind."

"Okay."

"Okay what."

"Get up."

She opened her eyes. He'd already stood, was already slinging her carry-on over his shoulder along with his own duffel, and she made a small sound of protest at the loss of his thigh but got up anyway, and he took her hand and led her.

There was a Sonesta connected to the terminal by a covered walkway. He'd noticed it earlier when they came in, the way he noticed exits and back doors and the closest bathroom in any restaurant, an old habit she teased him about and quietly relied on. He didn't say anything at the desk except a card number and a name. Sam stood at his elbow with her thumb hooked in the belt loop of his jeans, not talking, watching his mouth.

The room was on the fourth floor. Beige carpet. A print of a saguaro over the bed. The window looked out at the runway and the belly-lights of a plane taxiing past, and Sam went straight to it and pressed her forehead to the glass.

"Come here," Dave said, from the door.

She turned.

There was the look — the one he knew. The one nobody else got to see. Her mouth had done the small thing it did, the corner going up before she'd decided to smile, and her eyes had gone soft around the edges the way they only did with him, and he felt it the way he always felt it, low and warm and instant.

"Come here," he said again. Quieter.

She came.

He put his hands on her hips first, just there, thumbs at the divot inside her hipbones through her sweatpants. He kissed her — a real kiss, the kind that took its time — and she made the exhale she made when she was giving something up, and her hands went to his belt.

"Dave."

"Mm."

"I've been thinking about this since Tucson."

"You flew in this morning."

"Since the plane," she said. "Since the fucking plane."

He laughed against her mouth and she bit his bottom lip, not hard, and then harder when he didn't react, and he made a low sound and got a fistful of her hair and tipped her head back and kissed the line of her throat down to her collarbone, and she was already working his belt open, already getting the button of his jeans, already sliding her hand in.

"Careful," he said.

"Why."

"You know why."

"I don't."

"Baby."

"Show me."

He stepped back. She was flushed already, her mouth a little swollen, her hair a mess from where he'd had his hand in it. He looked at her — the whole of her, the shape of her in a black t-shirt and gray sweatpants, thirty-six and standing in a Sonesta and his — and said, "Get on the bed."

She got on the bed.

She sat back against the headboard and watched him and did not take anything off, because she knew he liked to. He came over and knelt on the mattress in front of her and lifted her t-shirt over her head — no bra, she'd taken it off on the plane in the bathroom, a thing she told him with a private little smile — and he sat back on his heels and looked at her.

"What," she said.

"Just looking."

Her nipples had already tightened. There was a faint tan line where a swimsuit strap had been the last time he saw her, in Virginia, three weeks ago, when she'd flown in on a Thursday and cried at the airport for reasons she hadn't been able to explain. He leaned down and put his mouth on her breast and heard her breath change and felt her hand come up to the back of his head, and he took his time — one, then the other, sucking, then tonguing, then dragging his teeth across her nipple until she said, "Oh," on an exhale, that specific exhale, the one he could pick out of a thousand.

He pulled her sweatpants and underwear off in one motion. She lifted her hips for him. She was already wet — he could see it, the shine of it on her, and he made a sound and she said, "Yeah, I know, shut up," and he laughed.

"I didn't say anything."

"You made the noise."

"You're the one who made the noise."

He put his mouth on her.

She was loud — she always was, and he loved it, loved the way she stopped filtering herself the second he was down there, loved the way her hand went into his hair and pulled just short of hurting, loved the shape her mouth made when she was trying and failing to be quiet, loved the taste of her, which had not gotten less startling in four years. He licked her slow first, flat of his tongue, until her hips started to move on their own and she said, "Baby, please," and then he gave her what she wanted — narrow, focused, tongue on her clit and two fingers curled inside her — and she came apart faster than she wanted to, her thighs closing around his head, her whole body going tight and then long and then loose, saying his name in the collapsed way she said it when she was almost gone.

He came up before she was done pulsing on his hand. She was breathing through her teeth. Her chest and throat had gone pink, the way they did, and her eyes were wet at the corners, the way they sometimes did, and she pulled him down by his shirt and kissed him with her taste still on his mouth and said, "Now."

"Now what."

"Don't."

"Say it."

"Fuck me."

He got his jeans the rest of the way off. He got his shirt off. He was hard enough it was uncomfortable and she looked down and took him in her hand and spit into her palm without breaking eye contact and worked him with it, slow, wet, and he closed his eyes and put his forehead to hers and said, "Sam."

"Mm."

"Baby."

"I know."

She lay back. He got over her. He lined himself up and pushed the head of his cock through her, just the tip, in and out, and she made a small frustrated sound and hooked her heel behind his thigh and pulled, and he sank into her all the way in one stroke and she said, "Oh, fuck, thank you," and he almost laughed against her jaw.

"You're welcome."

"Shut up."

"You said —"

"Shut up and fuck me."

He fucked her. Not slow. She didn't want slow — she'd been up since four, she'd been on a plane, she'd been in an airport for two hours, she'd been thinking about this since Tucson — and he knew what she wanted the way he always knew what she wanted, which was hard, which was his hand in her hair, which was his weight on her, which was to be told. He put his mouth to her ear and said the things she liked him to say, quiet, right into her, and she made the sounds she made — the wet exhale that meant she was close, the small "uh, uh, uh" that meant closer, the change in pitch that meant almost — and he felt her get tight around him and he said, "Yeah, that's it, baby, come on," and she came for the second time, harder than the first, her nails dragging down his back in a way he'd feel tomorrow in the shower, and he came into her with his face pressed to her neck saying her name against her pulse.

They stayed there. He didn't move. Her hands went into small circles on his back. The plane outside the window had moved on and another one had taken its place and was pushing back, its wingtip lights winking through the sheer curtain.

"Dave."

"Mm."

"I love you."

"I love you."

"I don't want to get on a plane at seven-thirty."

"I know."

"Can we just —"

"Yeah."

He rolled off her, finally, and she made a small unhappy sound at the loss and then a happier one when he pulled her onto his chest. He could feel her, the mess of them, cooling on his stomach and hers. Neither of them moved to do anything about it.

"You know what's stupid," she said, after a while.

"What."

"I was crying at four a.m."

"Why."

"Because in the dream you didn't know me anymore." She said it flat, into his sternum. "You looked right at me and didn't know me."

He tightened his arm around her.

"That's not a thing that happens," he said.

"I know."

"Sam."

"I know."

"Look at me."

She looked up. He put his hand on her jaw — the specific place, the one under her ear — and said, "There is no version of me that doesn't know you."

Her eyes did the wet thing again. She nodded, just once.

"Okay," she said.

"Okay."

She put her head back down. He felt her breathing slow. He thought about Sunday and didn't say anything about Sunday. He thought about the training in Seattle he hadn't told her yet was maybe actually happening, and about her cat and the nine hundred and fifty dollars, and about the puppy she'd shown him a picture of that morning, the one she'd sent him with three hearts and no caption, and about how in a year, maybe less, none of the ways they missed each other would still be the shape they were right now.

The plane outside pushed back into the dark. She was already almost asleep on his chest, mouth open a little against his skin, and he stayed exactly still.

"Baby," she said, from very far away.

"Mm."

"We're gonna miss the flight."

"Yeah," he said. "I know."

Audio Message.caf Transcription: Good morning sunshine What a winky dink that you had sent me that thing about your ass because I was just thinking about your ass I came so fucking hard this morning. Nothing like the real things of course God Here right now in my car an hour after I came cause I was still fuck you Over Like the driver seat though I'm headed to the gym Pretty well, you slept well I hope you hopped out of bed again this morning and have a great day You might not have came on like right away yesterday, but you ended up being unproductive Got your workout on, so that was awesome I'm like I said, I guess headed to the gym the bonus and It still hurts so that kinda sucks but by itself Stuff At the grocery store and getting ready for the week Yeah I miss you so much, sweetie. I love you so much. I can't wait to hear your voice. And I will talk to you soon OK bye

Transcription: Good morning oh my God I I'm still like Not fully awake, but I woke up first all. So I'm like OK I'm with my friend Jackie and we're like going to this funeral thing we're eating this weird ass fucking food and then we all like load up in a car to go like bury the body and I'm not with you at this point you like went away and I left my phone there like I just got up in a hurry and I left my phone and so like I have no way of contacting you and I don't like know your phone by memory and like I just yeah so I'm thinking like OK like he has no idea I left and like I'm sure he can figure it out. Tied to his teams and then like I can at least text him from her phone and she's like no I don't have any of that and like this whole time I'm just like thinking about how to get a hold of you and I'm like freaking out And then it's one of those dreams where like no matter what you keep getting set back and like you cannot get to where you wanna be and you have no concept of time like it could've been an hour or it could've literally been fucking days at this point that I've been gone and and you don't know where I am and so I'm just like fucking panicking And I just keep getting set back by this fucking funeral like things keep happening and I don't know like when I'm coming back. And then I get stuck doing something again Anyway, it ended with Jackie being like kidnapped again by these fuckers and I broke A rock through the window and They ran out and we like beat the shit out of them me and these other people And then by the time, I finally got back to the hotel. You were like long gone and then I woke up and it was terrible. It was absolutely fucking terrible. Why would you do that to me dude oh my God but I had like 100 miss fucking messages from you by the time I got like missed calls from you by the time I got back to my phone and you were so fucking pissed cause you can't get a hold of me and it was just like honestly Devastating. Audio Message.caf Transcription: Good morning sunshine What a winky dink that you had sent me that thing about your ass because I was just thinking about your ass I came so fucking hard this morning.

Fact: over the last few years the quality of chicken breast has been declining.

The worst

Audio Message.caf Transcription: Good morning sunshine What a winky dink that you had sent me that thing about your ass because I was just thinking about your ass I came so fucking hard this morning.

I actually do like marshmallow I’ve break topping though. I just don’t really like actual marshmallows. And I don’t like s’mores because the marshmallow squishes or the sides and makes a mess
